Nikolaus & Hohenadel, LLP was a Silver Level Sponsor at the 10th Annual Criminal Law & Forensics Conference, which was organized by the Lancaster Area Paralegal Association in conjunction with the Lancaster Bar Association and held on April 12, 2019 in Lancaster, PA.
As part of the sponsorship, Nikolaus & Hohenadel’s associate attorney, Frank J. Macciocca, addressed the audience in the areas of forensic accounting litigation support and fraud examination, focusing his talk on the unique advantages that an attorney who is able to perform accounting and tax analyses and investigation provides to a criminal defense team. Some of those unique advantages which were discussed included enhanced exculpatory financial data discovery; more efficient verification of financial facts; congruence with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) under the Frye Standard; conducting cross-examination of financial management, bookkeeping, and tax personnel; and the preservation of confidentiality, work-product, and available privileges when constructing and defending a criminal accounting or tax matter, whether a white-collar crime or not. During the course of this daylong event, over twenty-five (25) lawyers, paralegals, and students visited individually with Attorney Macciocca at the Nikolaus & Hohenadel sponsorship table to further discuss these and other related topics.
